Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ—: One of the joys of a day like this had to be the still quiet, the absence of noise in the immediate air surrounding Rei’s home. No cars driving by, and no useless stirring around his neighbors’ homes made for a relaxing time. Though life was still nearby, wind carried sound from all around which brought a sense of liveliness to this quiet place— kids could be heard playing in the streets and backyards down the road, the train could be heard pulling into the station, and there seemed to be somekind of commotion down by the market— and it was all for Rei to enjoy among his flowers.
Though, something caught his ear. It wasn’t the sound of tires screeching the next road over, or the racket made by kids down the street over whose turn it was. No.. This sound was much sadder— almost a sob— but where was it coming from? Given that he had received a card from Nagisa only moments earlier, Rei suspected that it could be him, and that he was still around. He hadn’t heard any footsteps leaving the premises, so his theory must be true.
Setting the card beside him, Rei turned around, facing the open expanse of his yard, before his eyes darted around to try and accurately pick out Nagisa’s hiding spot. Spotting a glimpse of clothing peeking out from behind the tree, Rei stood, and walked over to it quietly, leaning against the trunk on the opposite side where he friend was.
“Nagisa.. Are you alright?” he asked softly, staring off to the side as he lay he back to the tree. “The card was beautiful, you know..”
Nagisa could vividly hear Rei telling him he wasn’t beautiful. It sounded so real. They way that his name flowed off Rei’s lips. Only then did he realise that Rei was actually talking to him. His eyes widened, and he blinked several times, sniffling and drying his eyes with the back of his hand. “Rei-chan? Um I-I’m fine! I just… I’m happy you like it.” Beautiful. Rei had never described anything Nagisa had done before as beautiful. It was almost a prized possession to him.
Nagisa promptly stood, trying to brush off the dirt from his injured knees. Nagisa wasn’t very good with blood, and he couldn’t look at it for very long. Bits of bark and dirt were stuck to his wounds, and if he didn’t tend to them soon, it would probably get infected. He almost wanted to run away from the situation. He leant against the same tree, looking upwards into the sun shining through the foliage. He blinked the tears back. “Rei-chan… you’re really beautiful. Did you know that?”
His injured knees were stopping him from running. He felt like maybe he needed to have a conversation with Rei. He needed to get to grips with reality, not stay in his fantasy world where Rei liked him. That was just plain silly. People like Rei barely ever even tend to befriend people like Nagisa, or so he thought. It was just a rare coincidence that he even accepted to join the swim club.
“You’re so beautiful… I wish I was like you…”
“I wish so bad…”
